What We Do

At GATE, LLC, we promote a systems-level view of engineering problems, equipment design, start-up and operating procedure development.

Although we are also involved in many discrete projects, the principal thrust of the company is in developing a systems engineering approach to field design and operation. The means by which we practice systems engineering is to develop a series of defined deliverables that enables operating procedures to be developed in tandem with facilities concept selection and design. Too often we are left with installations that are designed in isolation and that then require much time, effort and money for us to figure out how to operate them. Our company philosophy is to develop outline operating procedures at the very start of a project and to expand these as the design itself is developed in greater detail. This takes personnel with a broad knowledge of production systems and the challenges involved in designing, constructing, commissioning and operating them.

Even in our smaller projects, such as working discrete process or corrosion issues, taking a larger view of the interactions and intricacies of the system as a whole enables us to develop an optimized solution that crosses many different disciplines and boundaries. Specialist consultancies, or compartmentalized groups in operating companies or contractors, often do not have the combined knowledge and flexibility to pull together solutions of this type. This is one of the main benefits that we bring to our Clients.

In order to address these interrelationships GATE, LLC has assembled a multi-disciplinary team with expertise of aspects such as reservoir engineering, flow assurance, chemical program & systems management, asset integrity management, process design, operations support, and start-up procedure development. This enables us to provide a balanced service to our Clients that ensures the interfaces between various disciplines are adequately recognized and addressed. This results in smoother facility start-ups, and increased whole-life value for existing developments.

Our Work Philosophy

Rather than attempt to provide a large number of engineers to a project, it is our goal to provide high caliber individuals for discrete high responsibility positions. This requires people that are willing to learn new things, able to transfer existing skills and knowledge to new situations, and who are able to manage and coordinate their activities and the activities of others. As such, a large proportion of our staff has advanced degrees or professional engineer certification.

We are a fairly small and close-knit company. This enables us to respond quickly to the needs of our Clients and also enables us to transfer learnings and skills rapidly through our project group. This enables us to invest in our employees to a greater level than many other businesses do. This approach has enabled us to position GATE as a supplier of systems engineering expertise, taking into account the broader consequences of implementing specific technical solutions that may not be apparent to individuals with niche technical skills.

Although our early projects were largely based upon the skills of individuals, over the last five years we have developed into a much more integrated team. This has allowed us to position ourselves as a provider of systems engineering solutions for deepwater developments which can be seen from the project list. The scope of our projects means that we encourage individuals to develop a broad knowledge of the industry, in addition to focusing upon their specific core competencies.

Systems engineering is an area that means many different things to different people. Whilst for some it is database management or interface management, for GATE it is an engineering approach that enables our Clients to gain the maximum leverage for their efforts and outlay.
